'The Tide Has Turned'

I have been super busy behind the scenes these last few weeks preparing for my solo exhibition which starts in just over two weeks time. But today, I finally got back to what I love most - painting! It feels like an eternity since I last painted and I've missed it immensely.

This is the what I created today, I've named it 'The Tide Has Turned'. I have a spare frame as I have managed to sell one of the paintings I was planning to take with me to my upcoming exhibition, so this one may now take it's place instead.

It's another watercolour and I would usually use pastel on top of the dried watercolour to try and create the effect of the stones on the beach but the trouble I find with pastel is unless you fix it it will continue to smudge so it has to be handled with care. You can fix pastel to prevent this happening but personally I don't like fixing pastel as I feel it darkens the painting so instead I tried the watercolour dry brush technique, this is basically the process of laying down watercolour paint with a dry brush, no water and a bit of paint. This technique can help bring texture into the painting.

I will be exhibiting my latest paintings in the back room of Godshill Methodist Church, Godshill, Isle of Wight PO38 3HZ on Tuesday 16th July until Saturday 20th July, 10am-5pm daily. Entry is free, with free parking in the village car park close by. Hope to see you there!
